Poll: Favorite Dick Miller Cameo

As many of you know, I wanted to do a poll on The Paradise for a long time but I never really knew what I wanted to poll about. Well, as I sat there listening to the Little Shop of Horrors soundtrack, I realized that I wanted to do a Roger Croman poll, but then it hit me that I wanted to vary up the question. I didn’t want it to be the typical “what is your favorite horror movie of the 70s” or “who is your favorite horror movie director.” So, somehow I came to Dick Miller and that is what my poll is about.

So my question is simple. What would be you favorite Dick Miller cameo? I know it’s not that original but as far as I know, nobody really did anything with Mr. Miller. So, here are the films:

Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
Piranha
The Howling
Twilight Zone: The Movie
Gremlins
Chopping Mall
Night of the Creeps
Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Evil Toons
Demon Knight
Route 666

Many of you might be wondering where Bucket of Blood is… I wanted to pull out films that Dick Miller was either a cameo in or was a second hand character rather than the main character. I am sure I am missing a lot more films that he has been in but these seem to be the ones that stick out.

The poll is located at the very top right portion of the blog. Whichever movie wins, I will watch it and I will review it. The poll will close on Monday, March 1st 2010 at 9:00 PM.

So, have at it.

  1. I am going to have to go with "Demon Knight."

  2. You must have been inspired by my Dick Miller is stalking me post on the Howling. Since it was fresh in my mind I have picked the Howling. Dick Miller is the love of my life- but I will always refer to him as Murray Futterman!

  3. Andre, sort of actually.

I wrote up the post and I said to myself, "Didn't Andre, say that she saw a Murray Futterman sighting in The Howling?" ;-)

  4. It's a no-brainer for me: CHOPPING MALL! God, but I love that movie. Miller's "shocking" reprise of his Walter Paisley role is just icing on the cake.

    Great idea for a poll!

  5. I suppose The Burbs doesn't count since it's not horror? Sad.

I went with Creeps. Miller + Atkins = AWESOME.

  6. Gremlins,as Miller was reunited with the wonderful Jackie Joseph who played Audrey in the original Little Shop of Horrors.

  8. I know it's not a choice, but "ALL OF THEM" would be my answer if possible. Dick Miller is simply awesome.

When I first saw the subject of this post, I was a little concerned that you were counting many of these roles as "cameos." No way in hell I would count GREMLINS (or a couple other up there) as a cameo. However, since you cleared that up, I can forgive you. =)

Anyhow, I went with GREMLINS; probably because it was the movie that introduced me to the genre at the young age of 5 (yes, I have issues), and I still consider it to be one of my favorite films of all-time (even after 25 years have passed).

  9. Jeff: Yeah, I didn't want the title of the post to be so long so I decided to say cameo and then clarify it in the actual post. ;-)

  10. You have to go with Gremlins. However, he had a stronger role in Gremlins 2, but it was the lesser movie.
