Review - The Thing (1982)

So here is my long awaited video review of John Carpenter's The Thing, from 1982. This movie had such a great influence on me that it became a gateway for me to explore new kinds of horror beyond kid's shows and PG rated movies. This was the one movie that scared me so much that it left me with a fear of dogs for years and it kept me awake for how gory it was. So, I give to you the review of my number one favorite horror movie... The Thing.

  2. Excellent review. Carpenter's The Thing is also one of my top movies of all time, and my favorite horror movie. As you said, it had it all, and it scared the crap out of me when I saw it at about 10 years old after renting the VHS. I had nightmares for years.

One of the incredible things is that the effects still hold up, and are superior in many ways to modern CGI effects. And enough cannot be said of the ensemble cast.

If you are a fan this might be redundant, but if you never did, check out the fan site Outpost 31. There's some cool stuff there, but there is an excellent e-book which masterfully dissects the movie scene by scene .

  3. I was 12yrs old when I saw this movie and everything from the cast to the writing was perfect. what bothers me is that not more people saw it and also what bothers me is that no one takes the time to perfect special effects any more, to much CGI and it's because of CGI that I don't watch ANY of today's horror movie.

  4. John Carpenter done his best version horror 1982 film 'The Thing.' The real special makeup effects and the puppetry special effects are 200 times twice as better and realistic. I think they really should stop doing the CGI effects, and go back to doing a lot of real special makeup effects, puppetry fx, and all other real costumes and makeup effects.

  5. The good professional directors and producers who would take their time doing good horror films should make eight to twenty sequels of 'The Thing,' and do over hundreds of more special makeup effects and puppetry special effects. I love to see a lot of air-bladders fx on the new transformations scenes, and love to see billions more monster transformations. Hope they will take their time doing good sequels as good as this movie.

  7. Carpenter's 'The Thing' is one of my favorite horror mutant films. I give this movie a good 'A+' for this rating. They should make thousands of more mutant horror movies similar to this film, and use more puppeteers, makeup fx, and more bladders fx.

  8. John Carpenter's 'The Thing' was horrifying cool! I want to see billions and billions of different scenes of the alien things swelling and growing from mens' throats, bellies, and bodies than bursting out of them. Looking forward for the new good sequels.

  9. Should come up with the 1 and the half hour horror film episodes of 'THE THING,' of course they would have to hire the different good actors, hire the lot of special make-up effects co-producers and puppeteers to do the lot of many weird monster transformations, and come up with the perfect horrifying storylines. That would be really cool.
